Mood Lighting

Morning swim is hard
cold and spurred by steel will
or merely habit fueled by knowing
“It’s good for me”
or, often, plain rote

Today: wonder, delight
change not in pace but awareness
conscious of the subtle movement in
ambient light

Instead of lifeless fluorescent
blue-gray-white
pool skylights tinted peachy-pink
startle the corner of the eye
and draw attention at every breath-stroke

Wet skin glistens golden
and the very air seems to warm

The rising sun’s glory seeps
flows, eventually floods
beyond the slog of routine, enlightening
gratitude for the habitual

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.” Psalm 113:3, NIV

“The Mighty One, God the LORD,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to where it sets.” Psalm 50:1, NIV
